Lived in the wetlands of Guam, Tinian, and Saipan.

It became extinct because of overhunting and the loss of freshwater marshes

There was a captive breeding program unfortunately the birds did not reproduce

Last sighting was in1979 on Saipan and the last sighting on Guam was in 1967 near U.S. Naval Station
